Today is Uncle Robert's last day. I thought of bringing my camera but I forgot. I should have captured the last moments of him in the Tavern. They also planned a gathering tonight but the four of us we're in no mood to go out or to spend. We're having a boring life right now.
My colleague, Hady reminded me that I'm a girl so I shouldn't carry much in my tray. I never forget my gender but I almost forgot the limits of being a female.

29 September 2010, Wednesday
I've been off from work for two days due to PH Leave and day-off. Now that I return to work, I feel that the week is nearly ending already even though it's just Wednesday. It's quite busy.
This afternoon there's this member who's been asking for this and that in different time. I mean, they should ask all at once. They just kept on asking me. They're not fussy though, just pushy. Sometimes, you can't do anything but to do as they wish. They're paying you anyway.

28 September 2010, Tuesday
Today is my scheduled day-off. I went to Orchid Garden with Kit. It was located inside the Botanical Garden. After that, we went to an ice skating rink in Kallang. We went together with Lissa and Farah. That was my first time ice skating but I somehow managed.
27 September 2010, Monday
Today is my PH leave for Hari Rayah. It was the end of Ramadan that we were celebrating in Philippines. At least now I know what it is called. However, I only slept all day.
26 September 2010, Sunday
Yesterday is the day after I have worn the costume. They're almost like teasing me. Karlaine is even insisting that we should just wear it alternately. How bothersome to do that.
I feel terribly down lately, but now after crying last night, I feel much better. I've been watching this anime about pastries and cakes. It was so cute! I wish my baking arts class was like that too. Well, sorry for me because it's all about breads! Boring!

25 September 2010, Saturday
Today is a very busy day. Now, I'm wondering how we can survive the operation even though the table napkins are very little in amount.
I wore the German costume. Then, one of the members told me that he thought that I was a young girl when he saw me walking. Well, I intended to look like that. I also met a member who’s a member of Manila Southwoods. Amazing? He's obviously an English man but he can speak Tagalog?!

24 September 2010, Friday
Well, F1 finally arrived in Singapore. I mean, it officially started in Singapore today. I don't know any news about it though. It's like we're in the center of Singapore, but we're in the other side of the events area in Singapore. I just wanted to hear the sound of the F1 cars accelerating.
There's this new trainee in Tanglin that is assigned to the Banquet. There's also one in Deli. New staffs also came in Wheelhouse. So just why are we the only ones without new trainees or staffs? We're certainly lacking of staff right now. Aiyo!
Anyway, the new staff in banquet is a graduate of culinary arts in St. Benilde, and pursued another study which is part of the hospitality just to have a work. He's currently having his training for his studies, and his school is in Singapore. He's just an ordinary rich kid in the Philippines who doesn't know how to work his way in life. It would be best if he tried working as a chef in hotels or restaurants. At least that's better than service. I say that but I like service better because I'm afraid to cook.
I will really wear the costume for the German buffet tomorrow. I hate to wear it but it's decided. So, this afternoon during split-shift break, I went out with Karlaine to find a blouse that is an off-shoulder type just to match with the costume. I found a black loose one, and it costs me SGD16. I only buy shoes that worth 10 dollars. It's my first time buying a blouse for more than SGD10. I borrow the money from Karline though.

23 September 2010, Thursday
Lately, I've been feeling that the days have been moving slowly. Maybe it’s because we're just waiting for our last day to come. Waiting just make everything slow. Maybe, I should have fun first while waiting. Rather, I should not think of the last day first. It makes me want to end my duty early.
22 September 2010, Wednesday
Tonight is the General Committee member’s dinner at Tavern. Thus we don’t have any buffet meal for tonight. With my cut being fresh, I tried to work even though it’s aching from time to time.
21 September 2010, Tuesday
Today is my day-off. I was quite unlucky, though. While checking things in a store at Toa Payoh, I accidentally cut my middle finger. It was quite deep. In less than a minute, my hand is drenched in my blood.
20 September 2010, Monday
Soon, September will end. In no time, October will end too. Time sure is fast in our club. I'm totally happy with it.
Just this afternoon, Mr. Zaini talked to me while at work. He told me that soon we will go back to the Philippines. I said that we still have more than a month. Then he asked me if I want to work in the Club after I finish my studies. I said that I'm not sure and I'll think about that first. I also said that I like working in the club. Well, it's only because of the staff there. If I were to come back here and my colleagues are not here anymore, I wouldn't be happy.
During break, Karlaine and I were talking about things to do after graduating. She listed what are our options of workplace. We want to go to Europe, then Australia. We even listed cruises that we might apply at. We're really excited about that. I'm kill joy so I ended the topic by saying that we still have five more months of hard work. Just by thinking of thesis, I'm already stressed even though my training is not yet done.
The German Buffet promotion is still going and it's on its third day. The food is still on the heat because it just started. However, we bet that before the promotion ends, no one would want to have the buffet, most especially if it'll be the same menu every day.
I did something terrible during lunch, I am pouring water in table 36 and when I'm about to return the goblet, It spilled into the table. They are not totally angry about it but they asked me to change the food because the water is mixed in the sauce. In the end, the member's guest did not finish the food. But he still ate it.

19 September 2010, Sunday
Today, Karlaine told me when our LAST DAY was! I'm not so surprised, neither happy nor sad. I'm in a terrible mood lately, so I'm quite emotionless. I don't move around much, as well. Anyway, our last day was October 29. Now, I'm excited to go home but I don't want to leave Singapore yet. I really don't understand how I feel.
Today's lunch was not so busy, as well as the dinner. It is manageable but still we came to the point of waiting list. I haven't seen Mr. and Mrs. Killick these last two days. I wonder why?
Surely I will miss the Tavern, my seniors, the other staff, the cold kitchen staff, and everyone. I will also miss the members.
This afternoon shift, Betty asked me to sign my form for the annual leave and PH. I'll be having my PH and off on the 27th and 28th of September, and my annual leave will be on the 5th and 6th of October. I was given two consecutive weeks with leave. I haven't planned what to do yet. However, I wanted to visit Sentosa again before we leave Singapore. I also wanted to go to Mount Faber, Tree top Walk and Ubin Pulau.

18 September 2010, Saturday
Yesterday is much more busy than today. Anyway, we started our German Buffet food promotion today. During lunch I was in Section CD and there's this table that is so demanding. They asked me to get this and get that. They want to keep the food warm, and so on. At the end, they give me compliments. They say that "The food is good but you're much better." They thanked me for attending to all their needs. I was kind of happy about that. However, I'm still annoyed at them. In addition to that, I'm totally in no good mood. I wonder why?
For the dinner shift, I'm assigned to section AB and I don't like it there. The buffet is placed in that section. It’s very crowded and difficult to move around. The buffet is causing traffic. Most of the time, I only wiped the plates for the buffet table.
Speaking of German food, the buffet is so not like German. There were a few sausages but not of German style. There were apple strudel and knots and those were the only things that made the buffet looked German. I wanted to sarcastically ask them who's deciding for what food to include in the buffet and with other promotions. But I'm afraid I might be scolded. My managers were in kind of a rush this morning because of the buffet.

17 September 2010, Friday
What a busy day did we have in the restaurant? This afternoon, we're preparing for the German Buffet promotion, thus all of us need to stay back for some more minutes. Well, we did stay back for 20 minutes but everything is not yet done. Actually, only the tables have been prepared. It was quite busy, that's why. In addition to that, Kali has been missing from time to time so I can't finish wiping all the cutleries stuck in my section. I've been very irritated!
Then, dinner shift comes. At first, there were almost no members coming in. If only it stayed that way, it'll be better. However, around 20:00, the members started to come in the restaurant. We even reached the waiting list part. Why the hell do they love to come in late? ALAMAK!

16 September 2010, Thursday
Thursday and it is quite busy. Well I'm just working half-day so it doesn't affect me that much. We got a big problem for the night shift. The cleaning machine broke down! How are the closing staffs going to wash all the plates left? Oh no! It's already quite difficult to clean the washed ones because it’s still soapy. Things like this are really inevitable.
15 September 2010, Wednesday
Today is Stanley’s birthday but it’s his day-off. I think that staffs have their birthday day-off. Every time that we’re having a celebrant, that person is always off on that day.
14 September 2010, Tuesday
Today's lunch time drink runner is me. The last time I became the drinks runner, I only received one latte order. Thus, I don't need to rush looking for latte glasses. Today is almost the same but latte orders suddenly came in group. Are they for real? They gave me 6 latte orders all at the same time when we only have 5 latte glasses. I can manage to be the drinks runner if only it's not expected to be busy.
13 September 2010, Monday
The week has just begun however I'm already stressed. My, my... Things don't always go according to plan.
We're supposed to change the tables today, so Karlaine and I started by 10:00. I thought that it'll be easier since it's the two of us and Loy Fatt and Betty and Wendy will be helping. With that team, we'll surely be able to finish. However, when we reach the restaurant, we only saw Betty and Loy Fatt folding the table napkins. I already knew that there was a problem. Then, when I approached Betty, she said that if the tables don't come she also doesn't know what to do. Ha! And that is the problem. The supplier did not come on time, thus the plan was ruined. They weren't able to forecast that happening.
But we still manage to finish the setting of the table even though the table arrived a quarter before 11:00. That was a total rush. We did manage to arrange everything but it was all messed up since we don't know the differences between the tables, even the runner cloth. And, when we're done setting everything, Mr. Hofer asked us to remove the plastic protector for the runner. WTH?! But, I was kind of happy that he asked us to do that since it was fun. I called it "Magic!" One will have to hold the cloth tightly while one is pulling the plastic liner. With that strategy, we don't have to remove the setting and reset again. It's just like a magic!
Before the operation started we're still changing the runners because the long tables' runners were wrong. I mean the liners' sizes don't fit the table. I'm the one who searched for the cloth and I did that for how many times. Before I even start with the real job, I'm already drained. I even went to the locker room to feed myself with some chocolate.
Talk about work, there's this fussy member that asked me to pack their food in a box. I told them that they needed to be charged if they wanted it to be packed using the box. The lady insist that the want it to packed by the box without having to charge them because she said they had been doing that always. Then, the guy asked how much would it cost to charge them, and I said that it's only about one dollar. In a sarcastic manner, he said why not charge them about a hundred or a thousand? I just asked my captain to come to them. He settled it for me. Then, for the second round, they were asking me if their dessert is already coming and I asked them if they were having the set dessert (today's dessert). The lady said that they have a dessert and I should just check their bill. How the hell would I know if they have dessert or not? I'm doing something else by that time. So when I served their dessert, they asked me if there were any problems regarding the dessert that it took so long before it was served. I just explained that the glass ran out from the kitchen and they still have to get it. The guy even asked for my name! I don't care if they complain. They're just fussy members!

12 September 2010, Sunday
Today at work, I'm supposed to be the drinks runner for lunch time, however, I'm not very confident about that especially during Sunday lunch. I just don't want to be a drinks runner during times of busyness. It's not like I don't want to stress myself, I just don't want to bother others by not performing my task well. So they exchange me and Ate Aisa's position. That was good enough for me. But! It's not so busy during lunch although there were a few wine bottle orders.
During the night shift, I'm tasked to keep the wine cards, sugar bowls, and salt and pepper. We're going to bring the table downstairs because we're going to change the tables tomorrow. However, I really did not fully perform that task. While I'm doing the task of being a junior, the others are already keeping those things. So I just arranged, refill and clean those things.
It's good to have a team work in your workplace. You'll feel like you're a big family. And everyone will enjoy the job they're doing.

11 September 2010, Saturday
Today is so wonderful because it is not busy. Even though today is Saturday which I consider as the busiest day, the restaurant is totally in a good calm mood. Why is it like that? I am really wondering. However, it is a good thing since I am very sleepy today. I totally felt sleepy during lunch shift.
I encounter a Filipino member during the night shift which is quite shocking to me. I don't know why I am becoming a little surprised and stunned just whenever there were Filipino guests talking to me in Filipino language. Maybe, I am not so used to being talked to in Filipino by guests or members? That’s probably it. I wonder what will become of me when I return to the Philippines. Speaking of returning, I have exactly 50 days before my last day. I'm not so sure when is my last day, but for sure it will be on the end of October.

10 September 2010, Friday
I haven't been on shift during Friday lunch so I was quite surprised when the Laksa day is not busy. Well, I really did not notice but two staff can handle Section AB considering that these two staffs were Uncle Robert and Ate Evelyn. And for this lunch shift, I am the drinks runner. I'm slow, I know. But please take into consideration that I am just a novice drinks runner. I don't know how to handle wine bottles and this is only my second time for this job. I actually thought that Ate Aisa and I will exchange again, but Betty did not do it. I am having quite some fun for this anyway.
For my job as drinks runner, I cleaned all the cups and fixed everything. I'm getting better but I'm still sloppy. There was even a chance when I have a piled up coffee orders and I still have other drinks to serve. I really did say "Oh my God!" Well, they helped me anyway.
For the dinner shift, it is not totally busy but everything is so messy. I mean, it's not flowing smoothly. I have a little incident where I dropped the Ice cream to the guest. It was not my fault though. It was the members fault. I am about to serve the Ice cream and then the member suddenly moved his elbow that made the Ice cream cup fall. It was entirely his fault. He was so into telling his story that he did not notice me. I did apologize to the guest, and he did the same thing to me.

09 September 2010, Thursday
Due to last night's night out, I'm very sleepy during the lunch shift. I didn't even go to Suntec to claim my Anti-virus pack. Anyway, things are a little weird in our restaurant today.
Loy Fatt works as a senior waiter in Section AB for both lunch and dinner. Well, they have noticed that the team in Section AB are a little slow, so they did that as a resolve. I'm supposed to be the drinks runner for today according to the section plan, but Betty knows that I can't handle it that much so Ate Aisa and I exchange. I checked the section plan and they intended me to be the drinks runner for quite some time, are they for real?
I'm trying my best to be multi-tasking but I find it hard. But at the very least, I'm doing it little by little.

08 September 2010, Wednesday
Today is not busy, but there were little problems that occurred.
And for the nth times, we enjoyed the Ladies' night. I'm not wholeheartedly into this Ladies' night this time because I have flu. However, I still enjoyed it. I went a little wild without alcohol intake. Yes, this is our night-out without any alcohol intake. I think this is our first Ladies' night or night-out without drinking any alcoholic beverage. Well, we're all by ourselves and our friends. And we're only girls.
I went out with Kit, Bab, Rox, Jarm,Guads, Jin, Lui and Eya. Ela is supposed to come with us but she went back to the dormitory first. Then, she did not follow at all. Maybe because she doesn't have anyone to go with, so she is not motivated to go? We've actually experienced trouble regarding the locker because it doesn't have good instructions, and it's not idiot friendly.

07 September 2010Tuesday
I got a flu. I have a sore throat for about one or two weeks. I feel like having flu after walking through a light rain. Yesterday, I started to have a flu breakdown. Then today, it has gotten worse. Well, this is what I call September flu. In addition to that, we have a flu breakdown in Tavern for the second time. I thought that it started with Hady, but Hady said that he got it from Loy Fatt. Just like the breakdown in July, Hady spread the virus to the Tavern staff.
We have an On-course during the split shift break. I'm planning to sleep and have a good rest, but the On-course runs for two hours, from 15:00 to 17:00. They prepared food for us, Sandwiches and Mee Goreng. It finishes at exactly 17:00. Since I have food and I only eat five egg sandwiches during the on-course, I eat my packed lunch. They said that on-course will run for 8 weeks, every Tuesday. It will continue until our last week. I totally don't want to go back to the Philippines yet.
On-course is training for the staffs off the Club. I'm not very sure but I think that its purpose is to update the staffs with the trends and remind the staffs of the proper service. However, I already learned everything from Tavern. Well, the first day is about our Standard Operating Procedures such as greeting the guests, leading them to the table, presenting the menu, offering drinks, taking order, and so on. The video presented to us is the first part of what we watched during our training with Mr. Zaini. By the way, the staff who attended the On-course were Me, Karlaine, Wendy, Yuki, and Hady from tavern; Kalithasan, Nazrul, Fadli, Tanesh, and Mia, from Wheelhouse; Farah and Lissa, from Tangles; and the four staffs from Churhill, I really don't know them.
Loy Fatt mentioned the teamwork for a few times during our briefings but he is not even doing that. He's just leaving plates in the tray with the cutleries with them. Even though he told me before that the spoons, forks and knives should be placed in the bins, he's not doing it. The fact that they are not arranging the soiled plates in the tray can't even be considered as teamwork. ALAMAK!

ALAMAK!

Today is my day-off. I really plan to go to Suntec to check the left-overs of the COMEX. Luckily, there we're still stocks for the laptops. I checked online the reviews of the Toshiba and HP notebooks, however, I bought an ASUS. I didn't even know much about this brand. I send a message to Kit and Bab, and they say that it's also a good brand. Since this company manufactures their own computer parts, I just think that it's a good point. Just to buy this A42J Asus, I even exchange my US dollar money to Singapore Dollar to complete the amount.
I brought along my G11 in going to Suntec with the plan of taking photos of the Fountain of Wealth. However, after buying the Laptop, I realized that I can't have a photography session anymore. I am carrying a big box, so I can't move a lot. I'm not able to buy Bab's Blueberry Cheese Tart in Tanjong Pagar as well because of this. So, I decided to go back straight to the dormitory since I can't do anything anymore. And unfortunately, it's raining lightly. I really have to go back to the dormitory because I didn't bring an umbrella with me.

Today is not busy at work for both lunch and dinner. It's good since we'll die cause of lack of staff. We have four staff assigned for section CD, and the Juniors are me and Kali. It was kind of good since Kali is, most of the time, the one who clears the tray and pick up dessert order. Well, Wendy and Pauline are the captains in the section, so they rather asked a guy junior to clear the tray. I am the one doing the service to the guests. Well most of the time, setting the table. At one time during the dinner shift, Loy Fatt asked me if there were things needed for our training. I will asked them for 6-month worth of rosters when feel like doing so. Well not only the roster, I will also try to ask them for club organization chart, history, and other paraphernalia. I need to compile everything just as soon as I return to the Philippines. I just don't like the idea of working on my papers while working on my thesis.
04 September 2010, Saturday
Yesterday I was do down and hyper thinking about the COMEX. I badly want to buy a laptop for the sole purpose of Thesis and group overnights. It was terribly busy in the restaurant.
03 September 2010, Friday
Today is my half-day in work. Well next week I'm gonna die since my off-day is Monday and I don't have any half day. The good thing is that I have 6 split-shift for next week.
I stroll around Suntec Convention Hall this afternoon for the COMEX IT show. I wish I have money to buy laptop/notebook. It's a good deal. You'll get the same item at a bit lower price or at the same price but you'll get freebies. I also discover that Vivaz Pro is not that good. One basic element is that a phone should have Bluetooth connectivity, but the Vivaz does not. Maybe I'll get Sony Ericsson Aspen or Xperia X2. These two phones are business types and both are touchscreen. However, Aspen's screen is very small due to its full qwerty keypad. X2's disadvantage is that it's a slide-up qwerty.

Second day of the month! It's just second day of the month but soon it'll be pay-day again. Time surely passes by quick. To think that we only have 2 months left to be here in Singapore, I really can't imagine how things will be when I get back to the Philippines. Maybe, when I return I will convert peso to dollars because that's been my buying mentality for the past 6 months? I'm excited yet sad. I really love this little country, my little paradise - Singapore. I love the people here as well. I feel totally secured here and I don't need to watch over my bag when walking in the streets alone. I like how the rules here are being strictly followed. I love it here, or rather, I learn how to love this little country.
Talk about work! It's not busy today. But things are a little blurry. I've work in section AB in the afternoon and in section CD in the evening. I have a sore throat and I think it's due to lack of water intake.

OMG! Unexpected things happened today. Out nowhere, well out of Betty's mind, I became the drinks runner during lunch. That was so shocking!
During briefing, Betty said my name as the drinks runner. I was kind of shock, but I believe that I can't be a drinks runner since I don't know much about that job. So I'm kind of relieved. But after the briefing, when I asked her again what my section is, she said that I'm the drinks runner and I should not worry because she will help me. Hady also said that if I need help, I can call him.
I can manage to make simple coffee, latte and cappuccino, as well as sending drinks to tables. However, I can't manage to make special coffee like mint cappuccino, macchiato, and the likes. Unfortunately, because chances love me so much, my first coffee order as drinks runner is a macchiato. Can you believe that?! I didn't even know how to make that drink. But I found it easy in the end. It's just coffee and milk foam. It’s as simple as that. I'm thankful that the machine is kind of idiot-friendly. I also receive orders like mint cappuccino, hazelnut cappuccino, and double espresso.
I came to the point that I have many coffee orders. At that time, Betty helped me doing the coffee drinks. I just literally became the drinks "runner". At first, I even send wrong drinks to a table. I send a gunner when the order is iced tea. How stupid of me.
Well, that was a good experience to be a drinks runner. Thanks to Stanley being absent that I became the drinks runner.

31 August 2010, Tuesday
Today is my day-off and I went to Pasir Ris. The beach park is big and I like it since it’s not only a beach park. They turned it into a big park that is good for educational purposes. There is this area with the mangroves. There’s also this Kitchen garden wherein the plants where used for cooking. The only agriculture for Singapore is their National Parks. I salute them for taking good care of their parks. Even though Singapore is a very small country, the people still managed to place a lot of national parks.
30 August 2010, Monday
It’s one of my annual leave today. I did nothing but to sleep the whole day. I ate my meal by midnight. I wonder how I can survive my training even though I only eat one decent meal per day.
29 August 2010, Sunday
Yesterday is not quite busy. I get the time to play a little with the cold kitchen staff. Lunch is manageable, but evenings, as usual, is quiet busy. During the split-shift break, we went to Kuya Nato's place since he invited us. He cooked menudo, as I requested, for us. I did have a good lunch. He had also given us our "relief goods". That's the term we used for food that we asked from the Philippines that all of us will share.
28 August 2010, Saturday
Today is such a busy day. Actually lately is busy since I haven't top up the sugar bowls before being off-duty. Anyway, for both lunch and dinner we have lots of long tables.
I just realize how hard it is to have long tables in the section. I really thought that it's easier since they don't need to reset the table again. And there's not much attending to be done. However, when the food came out and when the plates are cleared it's difficult to manage. It’s even more difficult especially when the members and guests for that table are demanding and very fussy. Well, work is still work.

26 August 2010, Thursday
Today is busy since this week is the pay-day week. Thus everyone is happy because of the salary. This morning's briefing, my seniors and captains received some kind of a letter regarding their salary. I think it's about their salary adjustments...deductions of this and that, particularly the tax. And I can see that everyone is smiling. If it were an anime or cartoon, their eyes would reflect dollar signs, or there would be bubbles showing lots of money. Well, the smell of money gives energy. Since it is pay-day, they are inviting again to go to this place and to that place, eat here and there. People in our club are one day millionaires as Ate Aisa described. Or maybe, not everyone is like that. When the money arrives, they will splurge it by drinking or eating out. That's how I noticed things. Money makes the bond stronger.
This afternoon is the Staff Gathering, our most awaited day where we can eat the club's food freely. This month's food is way better compared to last month's. Even though the dishes are just snacks, we still eat to our stomach's content. It's free anyway.
My weird schedule started today. For my split shift break, I only slept for 1 hour or less. I need to start work by 18:00, so I don't have much time. It's good that I still get some sleep. I just discovered that it's good to start work by 18:00 since there are almost no members dining and you're free to do anything. Tomorrow I still need to work 18:30 to 23:00.
This evening is busy. I did nothing but to clear tray and pick up dessert. Anyway, my senior, Ate Aisa got a tip of S$50.00. That was too big for a tip, you know?! Considering the fact that we’re not allowed receiving tips from members. Anyway, Ate Aisa treated us to Chicken Rice in Novena. And she also paid for our taxi. She's so kind to us.

27 August 2010, Friday
I have another half-day for work. For the past four weeks I have my half-days every Friday. I just so love it. Since Friday afternoons are laksa days.
Anyway, today's evening shift is just so busy. And there's a long table, 12 and 13 joined together, in which the ladies are laughing hardly. They are very noisy. The people next to their table even transferred to another table farther from them. After clearing the table, I look around and I saw other tables looking at them. I can't help it, so I burst into laughter as soon as I am in the section station. I laughed quiet hardly that my eyes became teary. That was the very first time that I laughed that much because of the members.
Then, Mr. Killick said "maraming salamat" to me. I came from their table, then he called for me again. I thought he was going to give me some tip since I saw him getting something out of his breast pocket. I saw a pinkish paper so I thought it was 10 dollars. But I'm mistaken. I'm surprised that he said "maraming salamat" to me in a slang manner. I repeated it to him with the proper pronunciation. I wonder where he learned that from. He always greets me in Tagalog that he already learned how to respond in Tagalog.

25 August 2010, Wednesday
Today is Karlaine's birthday and ladies' night as well. However, we totally got no plans for today. I also have no news as well.
Today is the General Committee meeting. That happens every last Wednesdays before the staff gathering. They always eat at Tavern after the meeting. For my four months of work in Tavern, I've experience being at the section of the committee about three times. I mean I'm always in the section where their table is set. I don't know why, but I feel that they are following me? There is also one day that there is a table in my section where the GM and some of the committee members is dining at my section. By the way, one of the Committee’s dinner at Tavern is my off day. So maybe, they are still in my section if I'm working.
I still have 9 weeks in counting. I don't want to leave yet. The club or maybe some of our close colleagues are planning a farewell party for us. I suddenly feel that my last day in Tavern is fast approaching!
This evening shift, because it's Karlaine's birthday, Kuya Nato prepared a chocolate lava cake with creative decorations. It was really beautiful. He even said that he did that speedily. Maybe for him that is not yet that great? I admit that he's good.

Another day I’m off from work. It feels like I just had my last off day yesterday. What I got from this off day are tan lines and sunburn?! I did not go to the beach though.
I went to Chinese Garden after arranging things regarding my ATM. It took around 20 minutes to arrive in Chinese Garden station from Aljunied station. I arrived at around 13:00 and there my day started.
I walk throughout the garden for five hours under the strong heat of the sun. That kind of thing sure gave me the tan lines.

23 August 2010, Monday
Today is Monday and we consider it as the start of the week for our operation. However, it became terribly busy during lunch. Usually Mondays are bum days. But today is different. Maybe it’s also because of the pay-day week.
During the briefing we kind of got scolded by our assistant manager. I really don’t know the whole story but Ate Aisa told me what happened while we were walking home.
It was very busy yesterday and Hady was the drinks runner. So maybe, Hady informed the managers that the service staff should put wine buckets in tables that have wine bottle orders. Since it was busy yesterday, Ate Aisa wasn’t able to put a wine bucket in the table. Maybe, Hady’s mood just turned around and that’s history.
Another thing discussed during the briefing is about when the section A and B got no staff to attend to. Loy Fatt said that the section A and B is always weak. Uncle Robert and Uncle Kok Wu are always there and usually one junior to help them. So there was only three staff to attend to the members in all. But the thing is, the drinks area is there so the drinks runner needed to help the service team when they are free. As for the Sections C and D, it’s farther from the kitchen. Considering that, it will be much difficult for the staff to transfer the soiled plates from the section to the stewarding and it will take some time. While one junior is doing the clearing and picking up desserts another junior should help in the service. In addition to that, Section CD is bigger and the turn-over rate is higher. That’s how the sections are plan in my point of view. But I think that there should be a rotation in section designation so that staff will be familiar with both sections. I like it better in Section CD because I have food there every day because of Yuki. AB is kind of troublesome because it’s hard to communicate with Uncle Robert.

22 August 2010, Sunday
Today is very fine; just perfect for my photo shoot in the botanical garden. I really did enjoy my trip to the botanical garden. Then in the afternoon, I had a date with Ela at Marina Bay.
21 August 2010, Saturday
At work, today’s lunch time is not busy at all. However, dinner time became non-stop. We have a long waiting list and people are aiming to watch the movie. Thus, there is only a certain period of time when it is very busy. During dinner, we send the cutleries in the stewarding late and we replenish the cutleries drawer late as well. I wasn’t able to replenish the sugar bowl.
Today, I learned making latte. Well, it’s not hard, I just need to press the button and the machine will do for me. But I am adding milk foam to the latte to make it look full. It’s my first time doing latte. Also, Sanchi (Hady) is scolding me because I’m making my own coffee order. Well, he’s kind of busy with the drinks so I just do it myself. He said that he will be scolded saying that he’s not making coffee orders and doing nothing. He’s kind of hard to understand because he’s moody. He’s really moody that in one shift his mood will swing from being happy to being angry. He’s kind of crazy and scary. But he’s one of the most industrious staff we have there. He’s helping here and there and kind of responsible. But when he decided to play, he’ll play around for real.

20 August 2010, Friday
Lately I've been having a half day every Friday. I so love it since Friday lunches are laksa days. I just hate carrying a tray with bowls half filled with laksa soup.
When I arrived at work, Loy Fatt quickly talked to me about my face scanning record. It appears that there are two days that I did not scan my face and one day that I did not scan for my split shift. I'm sorry to terribly bother them. They were kind of concern about my split-shift salary. But for me it's okay since this training is required for us and the salary is just a bonus.

19 August 2010, Thursday
It was quite a busy day for us since its Thursday. I don't know what's up with me but I don't want any Public or guest relations today.
During lunch we started our operation with may long tables. There's this member who asked for one table for 10 and one table for 5. In the end he miscounted the guest he had. So we added one chair in the long table. Then, I realized that there's a Filipino guest in the long table.
I really don't want to be in the restaurant in the moment so I always ask them for orders and I always clear the trays. There's the three of them there, so it wouldn't hurt to leave the service to them. But I think that Karlaine and I were too slow that's why Ma'am Betty asked us to speed up a little.

18 August 2010, Wednesday
I feel so tired today. I haven't gotten any good sleep, and my body kind of hurts.
During night shift my mind is wandering around thinking about thoughts of my working life. I wonder if I will still become a waiter when I graduate. To think that I even studied in one of the most prestigious universities in my country to only become a waiter my whole life. This job requires more of physical power than mental power. It's not so difficult and the pay is quite good. Then, I also think that I wanted to try being on the field of the feasibility. I have a little experience on that and I wanted to explore my knowledge of that field. Come to think of it, I wanted to do so many things that I really don't know what I like the most. I don't know what my passion is.
During lunch shift, there's this table, D36 whose member ordered a cheese platter. I served the cheese platter and they asked for more crackers. I told them that I already asked the chef to add some more but the chef said that it needs to be charged. Then the member said they're willing to pay some more and they wanted ten more crackers. They also told me to call my manager and they found the cheese platter ridiculous. I also find the cheese platter being ridiculous. They cut the cheese bigger than the way we cut it and they only give four crackers. How are they going to finish the cheese with those crackers? That was really idiotic!
During the briefing, my manager and assistant manager said that they will practice the captains to hold a briefing to help them. That was good enough since sometimes they're late for their briefing. Today the briefing started with Pauline.
Singapore practicum is quite good, that's what I think. I get to learn how to count in Chinese and I get to purchase things from my own pocket. I'm getting better in counting in Chinese.

It was a really fun day.
I am on duty for the opening. I have to fold a lot of table napkins, but I'm used to it. Then, during briefing, I'm wondering why Karlaine is not around. I'm thinking if she's half day again. But then, one of my colleague's asked where she is and my assistant manager answered she will be late. They are asking me where is Karlaine and why is she late. How would I know? We sure stay in one room, but I don't have the same schedule as her. I'm just answering them I don't know. I left earlier than her since I start at 11 and she starts at 12.
When she arrived, my assistant manager talked to us and told us to help each other. I should wake her up and she should wake me up before leaving. That's a bother for me, since I don't want to wake people up when they're sleeping. I don't want others waking me up if I don't asked them to do so.
During night shift, I experienced taking order from a table whose guests aren’t members. I took my time taking their orders and when I’m done, I asked for their membership card. They said that they don’t have a membership card and that they are not members in the Club. I am surprised with that so I asked my assistant manager to attend to them.

I got a new week to spend in Singapore. Lately, I've been talking about how I will miss Singapore and how I don't want to go back to Manila. I barely have two months and Two weeks left in Singapore. I will definitely miss everyone and everything here.
During the lunch shift, I'm the only Filipino in our outlet. And, surprisingly, I'm assigned in section AB. I just don't like that section. I have to top up the plates and wipe all the cutleries there. It takes so much time to finish everything. Well, I don't mind it at all.
During evening shift, I asked Ate Evelyn to make me a chocolate drink with mint. She really did make me some and it was really good. I'm actually thinking of buying a can of Van Hauten Chocolate powder and a box of peppermint tea when I get back to the Philippines. I'll also buy cordial like almond and hazelnut for my coffees. I'm so luxurious.

Another week had passed and I'm yearning for my day-off. It's just because I want to use my new camera outdoors. I'm always using it indoors so I can't really study it perfectly. However, my next off-day is on Sunday. Well, time passes by quickly for us.
Today's evening shift is like a game of Plants versus zombies. However we only have two waves of members. The first wave is before the movie and the second wave is after the movie.
When I got upstairs at 19:00, several tables are already occupied. But when the clock turns 21:00, the members of different tables signed their bills almost at the same time. So we needed to print the bills one after the other. We also have to clear the tables at the same time. In addition to that, there are still members coming in and asking for a table and we still have members on the waiting list. I already know that after the movie, members will come in again to dine. I don't think it's that busy, but it is. Lately, I haven't felt the busy days although I get tired sometimes.
Tonight, I proved that when Pauline is on duty for the closing, it's always busy. Ate Aisa told me about that, and it really is true. I checked the section plan to know who's in charge of closing. I saw Pauline's name with 7:00-12:00 (the work time). Then, I wonder if her little curse is true because during that time only few tables are occupied. When the clock turns 22:00 I assured myself that it's true.
There's also a little commotion that occurred about the cutleries. I don't know the whole story but I think Tanesh mixed our cutleries with their cutleries and Ate Evelyn saw it. Of course, with her attitude, she confronted Tanesh about it. They we're already inside the restaurant and I think Tanesh doesn't want to stop and his voice is loud. Of course, it's no good.

14 August 2010, Saturday
Today is kind of busy, both lunch and dinner. I wasn't tired though.
I am on duty for the opening. I get myself ready really quick so I still have time to eat breakfast. However, I still finish quick so I went to the restaurant early. Well, I always go to the restaurant early.
During evening shift, I went to the restaurant 10 minutes earlier. It's because Loy Fatt is looking for Aisa and Pauline so we thought that it's already busy. So I went ahead of them but the restaurant is almost empty. Well, I will just make myself feel sleepy if I stayed in the locker.
I don't know what's wrong with me, but I feel like playing. Maybe, I'm thinking that this work is so simple that I can handle it even without being serious about it. I can still manage even though I'm not really serious during work. I'm still thinking that I'm still not serious at work but I still do well.
After work, we go straight to Clarke Quay. But it's not for a bar night out. It's a party in the sense that we're celebrating a person's birthday. However, we're just there to eat. Since Kit's parents arrived yesterday, they treated us to dinner/supper. It was Kit's mom's birthday.

13 August 2010, Friday
I have a half day schedule today. They've been cutting down our split-shift schedules since we're already being paid for it. 7.50 Singapore dollars per day is the split-shift pay. We will get about a hundred and fifty dollars in a month just for the split shift. In addition to that, we still have our one hundred and fifty dollars food allowance and we still get the allowance of about 400 dollars. I really computed how much I could possibly earn just in case I don't spend too much. Well, that was quite impossible because the EZ-link card eats a big percentage of my allowance.
I have a normal day today since it was not totally busy. I just take orders randomly, set table randomly, key in orders and pick up desserts. It's just a normal day aside from taking orders more frequent.
Karlaine said that Betty has been asking her when is our last day as stated in the IC. I'm sure that it was 29th of October. She told Betty about it, and then Mr. Zaini said that he already talked to the HR to make us sign a contract again for two years. I'm sure that that was a joke, but jokes are half meant. So they really want us to remain.

Work News! About ten minutes before 11, there's already no one in the restaurant aside from the staff. So, my seniors started to play. I mean they're just doing whatever they want. Neither the managers nor the members were there. Thus, there's no need to be very proper and professional-looking. Can you imagine how does a closing time is like in a restaurant? If you haven't been in a restaurant in their last order time, you might not know. Well, I discovered that tonight.
My Filipino senior, Nolisa, is drawing a chef figure for the Today's Roast board. The black painted board is quite new because it was sent for repainting. She is surely taking her time. At the other side, Uncle Robert is seating in Table 24. He is seating comfortably while eating bread. Ate Evelyn, another Filipino senior of mine, and Uncle Kok Wu are seating in Table 15 and acting as if they were members who just received a poor quality of service. They were pretending like members who wanted to complain and looking for Loy Fatt, my assistant manager. Then, Hady suddenly answered as if he was Loy Fatt. That was so much fun. We're really like a family in Tavern. I'm having fun in tavern since it doesn't require much stress. Kidding! It's because of my seniors. It is quite stressful and requires a lot of physical labor. I like it there anyway.

Today is Becky's last day but I'm not working. I'll miss this China Girl so much.
It has been decided, since last week, that I'll be watching a movie with Jeanne and Bab. But there had been a few changes in that plan. Jeanne did not go because she just doesn't want to. And, Nazrul invited me to a movie last night, so I just told him to tag along with us. Not having Jeanne around even though I originally plan to spend a day with her did not make me feel any bad. I even enjoy this day so much!

Today is my day-off, or I think it is PH (Public Holiday). Days off from work really start in the afternoon.
I woke up around 12, and I just fell asleep yesterday without me noticing. Actually, my roommate, Karlaine, said that it's so unusual for me to sleep very early. I even slept on my clothes' on that day. I just felt so tired that I can't even change into something fresher.
Well, today I went to Sim Lim Square via Bus 67. It was my first time riding bus 67. Thank goodness I did not alight on a different bus stop. Well, on the way to Sim Lim Square, I found the Thieves Market/Flea Market that I've wanted to go to. It really is just an open market in empty streets. And Sim Lim Square is actually located along Sungei Road and just near Bugis.
Abang told me to meet at Sim Lim Square at around 18:30. I arrived 30 minutes earlier so I decided to have a walk outside the building. Then suddenly, Abang called my name and I was kind of surprised. He said he sent me a message, and he did but I just received it. Then, he started looking for a store that's he's been buying his stuffs. There's a G11! However, the salesman is recommending a Nikon P100 to me. I'm already decided to buy a G11 even though the Nikon unit is cheaper. Abang asked me to go and eat and think about it first. But I said that I want this one. That's the only thing that I'm saying. I'm just too slow that I didn't realize that he's asking me to look around first. (laughs) At the end, I bought it with a spare battery. Everything costs 800 dollars including the GST and Nets charges.
After buying the Camera unit, we parted ways. He still has to go to work, and I still have to charge my camera for Chef Donald's party.

Happy Birthday Singapore!
Today is a day when most people wear red and white. That was the color of their flag! Today is the day that is being prepared for more than a month. It is indeed a grandiose celebration for this little country. Today is the 45th celebration of the National Day. It's exactly the same as the Independence day in my own country. However, this country's is much more awaited than ours.
I am working today, even though I also wanted to go and see the celebration. Well, I think that was fine since I got a cute flag tattoo on my face. Almost all the staff in the club is wearing white and red. But our outlet, Tavern, and Deli are just wearing the regular uniform. Of course, for formalities' sake, my assistant manager wouldn't want something that's not uniform. At least we were allowed to place the tattoo anywhere we want. I placed in on my left cheek. Almost all the members noticed it and they said it was cute. "Oh, you got a flag on your face? It was cute!" or something like that is what they said. They wonder if they also have to put a tattoo on their face. Maybe, I really did put mine nicely. And I feel so cute today. Well, I am nothing compared to Wheelhouse's manager, Razali. He got a big heart on one of his cheeks colored with Singapore Flag, and a small writing of I love SG on the other. He sure is proud to be a Singaporean. My captain, Pauline, said that I should put a Philippine flag on the other cheek. Kuya Nato also said that. I can't do that. I'll be killed for sure.
It's so not busy today! During lunch, There's almost no members in our section, CD, and almost all the tables in AB are long tables and their full. During evening, there's quite a quick turnover of tables.

08 August 2010, Sunday
Tonight, I'm very bloated. I really had much fun with my girls.
Almost every day-offs, I start my day in the afternoon. Before, I always have plans for my off-days. I always have destinations to go to. But lately, I've been sick of going out by myself. Well, I am always thinking that I have to get my G11 (Canon Powershot Camera) first so I can take good photos of places where I go. I already made a lot of online albums with photos taken in Singapore, but all of the photos are taken using my Nokia 5530 Xpressmusic. My handphone is really overused. I always use it as music player and camera. Its original purpose hadn't been prioritized.
The three of us, I, Karlaine and Bab, even wore good clothes and pretty make-ups. It's a must if it's an off-day with something to do. It's like, off-day equals to dress-to-impress day. We went to Bugis area, and looked for the street stated in the blog I found. I actually forget the names of two street stated, but I know what it was when I see the street name. Luckily, we find it quickly.
We walked through the two streets. These streets hold a lot of steamboat houses. We did not find any good shop. We checked the Seoul Garden in Bugis Junction and just decided to eat there. Per head, it's around 30.60 dollars. It's actually quite expensive if you're gonna convert it to peso. But it's just a one-time-big-time thing. In addition to that, it's a buffet. We can just eat and drink as much as we want, but of course, in limited selections only.
After eating, we decided to walk through Marina Bay and stay there to relax for a while. We had quite a long night but we sure had fun.

07 August 2010, Saturday
I am very clumsy and I wouldn't deny it. I've realized this a long time ago but today I have my proof.
During lunch shift, I led two persons to a table for three. Thus, I have to remove one of the settings. When I am about to remove the goblet, I accidentally bumped it into the table and then it broke. Sometimes, I accidentally let a goblet slipped out of my hand and fell on the table but they never broke. So, today was different. I was kind of surprised, too! I have to tell the members to move to another table. Well, of course, that is a must. Then, during dinner shift, when I am about to bring a tray and the container of cutleries together, my colleague pass to me and we kind of bumped into each other. Then bam! My tray slipped and I couldn't support it because I am holding another thing in my other hand. Not everything broke, though.
When I was able to put what I was carrying down, I took the broom ad dust pan to clean it but they did the cleaning for me. So I continued, with my task - to pick up dessert order. I went on like nothing happened.
I just noticed that from time to time, members and guest will talk to me while I was serving them. I kind of don't like it because I have to smile all the way through the conversation. But, somehow I like it because at least they appreciate my presence in Tanglin even though I'm just a trainee. They will tell me Filipino words that they know. There's this member, Mr. Killick who will always say "Kumadre, kamusta?" to me.Then, will answer in English because I doubt if he'll understand once I answered him in Filipino. He will still smile and answer back saying he's good or he's fine. Of course, I will also ask his wife about haw she is. The most common thing that members are telling me or asking me is, if I like it in Singapore. Almost everyone asked me that question. Then, I will answer, "Yes, I really like it here." Honestly, I like Singapore. Everything's near and I feel safe and free here.

06 August 2010, Friday
Today's lunch is not busy. I was kind of worried because it's not busy during a Friday lunch. So I thought that we'll die in the evening. However, I still think that the evening shift is manageable.
I took my break early.
When I get back to the locker Ate Aisa asked me for the key. That's a sudden realization that I have the keys with me. She's on duty for the afternoon closing so it'll trouble her so much, as well as the one on duty or the 5:00 opening.
During our briefing today, Betty told us that one of the members from the guest rooms evaluated the service in Tavern as poor. And that member really likes the Tangles wherein the food, as Mr. Zaini says, is rubbish. Why the member evaluated Tavern as poor? Well, because none of the staff offered drinks to them. What the hell is that reason?! It's just a single comment but that still matters a lot.
I also realized today that Uncle Robert likes Ate Aisa more than anyone in Tavern. I just figured out that he's kind towards Ate Aisa. Well, Ate Aisa is also kind and sweet towards Uncle Robert.

05 August 2010, Thursday
Weekends are fast approaching, and so are the busy days. I'm gonna die soon.
Today's lunch is manageable, but dinner is quite busy. For some reason lately, it'll be only busy during a certain time. Like, from 20:00 to 21:00. It's always been like that since the renovation of the Wheelhouse.
I am always in section C and D that I already know the frequent members and what table is for who. There's a couple that always eat lunch at Tavern but I never learned their names. It's just that I always see them at a certain table, table D36 which is a corner table. They will have a chilli padi with soy sauce, a saucer of balsamic vinegar with olive oil, and two bread rolls. For the water, the lady will have cold water and the gentleman will have the warm water. After the meal, the gentleman will have an apple pie without ice cream. I realized that just this afternoon because I'm the one who lead them to their seat.
There's also another couple, Mr. and Mrs. Killick who are always dining at Tavern for lunch. They will always sit at section D. Both of them will have iced water and the guy will have a glass of merlot.
Mr. Windle, who is very old, or so I thought, will always sit in section C T2 even without anyone leading him there. Well, he usually comes during our briefing so he will just seat as he pleases. When his table is taken, he will sit in Section A and B whether T5 or T8. He will always sit in the middle table. His water should be very cold with lots of ice and his soup should be boiling hot. I'm thinking that his mouth can bear the extremes. If you don't follow his orders, he will scold you!
There's also another member who usually dines during lunch - Mrs. Leong. If she's alone, she is always in a hurry, but if she's with her friend or with her husband, she'll stay there until they go home. She will always have a spoon, fork and knife for whatever dish she's having. Also, she always orders Fruit Punch with less ice cubes. Mr. Koh, who usually sits in Section D, will always have a rockmelon as appetizer and dessert.
There are also members who will always order the same food with special requests. There's this lady member who will order a gourmet burger in which the egg and patty should be burnt on both sides. But I once saw her order a different dish with egg that is still burnt on both sides. There's another member whose dessert will always be ginger pudding, and only the pudding itself with pouring cream.
I am sure that I will miss the members. My whole training in Singapore only revolves in Tavern. However, I am not really becoming sick of the work. Well, of course there are times. I like to work in Tanglin, because the members are kind and they get along well with the staff. That's the kind of workplace that I want - somewhere where everyone gets along well with each other. I want a place with a very cozy atmosphere. I still have three more months but I'm missing my colleagues already.

04 August 2010, Wednesday
There's nothing much that happened today in my work place. Everything went on smoothly.
Regarding work, today's afternoon shift is quite busy. At least, it is busier than the evening shift. Or maybe I just think that way since the operating hours in the afternoon is shorter than the evening. For lunch, the operation starts at 12:00 and the last order is until 14:30. Well, last orders' are usually only for the main dishes. How I pity those who are in the cold kitchen. Then, for dinner, the operation, I think, starts at 18:00 and the last order is until 23:00.
As usual, I only do things that I do every single day like replenishing the sugar bowl, refilling pitchers, picking up dessert orders, clearing side stations, clearing tables, refilling water goblets, and etc. I just think that it's unusual for me to take orders when I see that it's quite busy. But I think that it's ok since I only took orders when I still got nothing to do.
Also, I disturbed all my colleagues to teach me the Singapore National Anthem. I just want to learn it to feel the spirit of the National Day. I disturb the people in the restaurant in the cold kitchen but no one can tell me the whole song. All they know is, "Majulah Singapura", and that's it! I am actually thinking of wearing a red dress or shirt for the National Day. "Live our dreams, Fly our flag". Happy Birthday Singapore!

I did a mistake today. I give the order cheat to the drinks runner and I accidentally wrote the wrong table. I entered the correct table in the micros but I wrote it wrongly on the paper.
Somehow, I am improving in answering phone calls. However, I am still afraid that I will not understand the member on the other line.

Starting today, we will be having our Boston Lobster Promotion. Aside from the promotion itself, we also have live lobster on display. They were so cute that I can’t keep myself from looking at them. I want to take them home. Also, the new Food and Beverage Director came today. He is introduced to us by Mr. Zaini. His name is Mr. Rahmani and he looks like a nice guy like Mr. Zaini.
01 August 2010, Sunday
I worked half-day today. When I went to work, Wendy told me that one of the Chefs has been looking for me. He wants to ask me out to a movie. Tonight is such night. Well, it’s a Sunday and there is a movie. What should I expect for weekends?
31 July 2010, Saturday
Today, I learned that the employees in the Club have Unions. Now, the staffs are having some kind of issue regarding money from the union. They said that before even though they are not part of the union, staffs still get money from it. Now, they want to stop that kind of rule since members of the union, Singaporeans particularly, are paying some rates for the union while the non-members are not. It is truly unfair for the union members. So, I think that the staffs will start to sign application form for the union.
Even though today is a Saturday, the dinner shift is totally not busy. Uncle Kok Wu said that there is some kind of a parade in Marina Bay in preparation for the National Day. Therefore, the people are there.

30 July 2010, Friday
Karlaine took a sick leave/MC from work today. I also don’t know about it since she did not inform me. She just did not show to work. She just gave a phone call telling that she’s having UTI. Due to that, Section CD is having a big problem. I am assigned in Section AB. I am always in section CD and Karlaine is in AB. So whenever she’s not working, I’m in section AB and the same thing goes for her. Since she’s not around, Section CD is having problems. I can see Wendy, Pauline and uncle Kok Wu carrying trays. I pity them.
After lunch shift, we had the lobster promotion tasting. There were only thermidor and curry dishes. I love the thermidor. I did not try the curry since I don’t like curry. After that, I joined my seniors in their lunch since they asked me to. I don’t know where they did get the food but I love the Sweet and Sour Pork. They don’t want to tell me where it came from.

29 July 2010, Thursday
During lunch shift, my manger took Bonnie from Churchill to help us in the operation. It is not so busy but the dessert orders piled up. I still have dessert being picked and there were more dessert orders coming. I am getting dessert that I can manage to get. During dinner shift, I received a complimentary ticket from Mr. Glass for Golden Village. Golden Village is a moviehouse in Singapore owned by Mr. Glass. When can I use the ticket, I wonder?
28 July 2010, Wednesday
Today is Bab’s, Karlaine’s, Rox’s and my day-off. It’s rare for us to have our day-off on the same day. We planned to go to Sentosa and Abang Azman will bring us there. But before we go to Sentosa, we first went to the Club to celebrate with Chef Donald’s birthday. So, last night’s treat wasn’t for his farewell party but for his birthday. Then, we go to Sentosa in the afternoon so that we can be with Kit. We had fun sightseeing and riding the Luge and watching the Songs of the Sea. We really had s fun day.
Our day did not end with our day trip. Since today is Wednesday and a Ladies’ Night, we’re invited to go clubbing. Of course we agreed to go. We went to Rebel and Tanesh treated us to bottled drinks. Jerick and Neal also joined us. We were a very big group tonight.

27 July 2010, Tuesday
Since we’re already working the Club for three months, Betty resolved our issue about our split-shift pay. She really argued with the HR and defended us. So during the briefing, we’re told that our split-shift will be paid but the pay will only cover from the month of June. It doesn’t matter to us as long as we’re paid.
Chef Donald treated a lot of Tanglin Staff in Newton. He will be leaving soon so that’s the reason why he threw a party. We’re a really big group but the most fun thing is our walk to Newton. Together with our manager, we jaywalked through the roads and we even crossed a barricade. That was my first time doing that. I never crossed street fenced in my entire life of living even in the Philippines. And to think that our manager was the one who prompted us to do that?! That was really so much fun. One can never tell a Manager in Singapore unless he or she is at work. It’s very unlike Filipino managers in the Philippines who have poise and pride event outside their work premises.

26 July 2010, Monday
We already received our pay slip for the third month. I just don’t know if that was already credit to our ATM. Since it’s already payday, Karlaine, Ate Aisa and I decided to eat in some steamboat house in Bugis. Unfortunately, we don’t know the place so we end up eating in Newton.
25 July 2010, Sunday
Today, my clumsiness showed again! I broke a glass while clearing a table. It was an accident but it’s still because of me not being very careful.
During dinner shift, around 21:30, there were only a few tables occupied. This has been happening to our restaurant since the Wheelhouse moved to the Terrace. Also, during dinner shift, I found a piece of earring that a member has been looking for. I gave it to my captain and the member insisted on thanking me. I was very hungry and busy eating during the time that she wanted to thank me.

24 July 2010, Saturday
I again, surrender my ATM card to Bab just to avoid spending. I became an impulsive buyer ever since I came to Singapore. I kept thinking that I will only find that item in that place and on that time. So I will buy it no matter what. To prevent my unnecessary expenses, I had my friend hold my ATM for the time being. I must do this in order to save and survive.
21 July 2010, Wednesday
Again, I’m one of the 10:00 opener. However, unlike Sundays, I did not only fold the napkins. I also set the settings and cutleries for the tables. Since we prepared the restaurant last night for the varnishing, we did not set anything on the table. Actually when I went inside the restaurant, it is uncomfortably hot because they kept the doors open so that the place will be ventilated. I have to rush in doing everything because I still need to do the 11:00 duties. Today’s opening was kind of tiring.
20 July 2010, Tuesday
For the second time, a member told me that my English is good. Then, since the whole drinks area will be varnished we have to prepare the whole floor. The drinks area has wooden flooring and it’s time for its maintenance. As part of preparation for the varnishing, we moved out the tables, chairs and everything from the whole section. With this, the people who will do the varnishing will not be troubled. Even though we are part of the service team, there are things that we need to do for the sake of our restaurant.
19 July 2010, Monday
Today is my first ever afternoon shift half-day. It is a very rare chance to have a half-day schedule of 10:00-15:00. Well, Wendy’s half-day is usually like that. Actually, Pauline is also surprised to see my schedule, and when I went to work, Wendy is surprised to see me.
Since it is Monday, it is not so busy. After work I decided to go to Labrador Nature Reserve. The park is kind of historical and creepy. I find it kind of boring so I decided to go to West Coast Park. Fortunately, I reached the place. It kind of resembles the UST grounds. How nostalgic!

18 July 2010, Sunday
Today is my co-trainees day-off and it was not so busy. Nothing much happened today.
17 July 2010, Saturday
Today is a very busy day in Tavern since it is a Saturday. Weekends sure are tiring.
16 July 2010, Friday
Technical problems can’t be avoided during operation. During dinner shift, the micros system suddenly broke down. Everything is literally there, from drinks order to dessert. So, as a countermeasure, my manager wrote down all the orders and keeps it altogether. We suddenly turned manual. Thus, the members did not sign their bill for the time being.
Ma’ am Cabigao and Sir Win, visited us in the dormitory so that they can arrange the graduation papers.

15 July 2010, Thursday
Tonight, my senior, Becky, cried after her talk with our Manager. Becky plans on resigning from the Club. I think she has an exit interview with my manger. Then, she cried because my manager keeps on insisting that she doesn’t like to work in Tavern, and the staffs are not treating her well, and so on.
I admit that the work in the Club is not difficult but it is physically hard and tiring. However, the relationship that the staff have is tight and enjoyable.

14 July 2010, Wednesday
One of the staff from the Wheelhouse kept on bothering me. He keeps on asking me out to watch a movie together. I always say no, but he still keeps on trying. He’s so annoying.
12 July 2010, Monday
Last night we stayed over Rox’s place. We woke up not really late. We have a weird pancake for breakfast. It is difficult to cook.
We thought that we’ll be late for the shift, but we’re not. The travel time is quite fast. We can’t be late for the face scanning. During briefing, I’m quite surprised to see Loy Fatt. He returned from his leave and he has a change of hairdo. His hair looks refreshing. It’s just like Razali’s.
During night shift, I experienced this Cheese Board Missing Case. I went to Cold Kitchen, Deli and Terrace to look for the cheese board quite a number of times. But I can’t find it anywhere. It is quite difficult to serve the cheese board since there is only one cheese board that will be used for all the outlets.

11 July 2010, Sunday
Since the other day, we planned that we’ll be staying overnight at Rox’s place in Bukit Panjang. However, it was only me and Karlaine who did stay over. Bab is not feeling well, and Kit needs to wake up early the next day.
Lunch shift is busy but the evening shift is not. During ht enight shift, Stanley managed to get a piece of the ned-cut of the roast beef. It was good. However, nobody really wants to eat beef so it’s such a waste.

10 July 2010, Saturday
Even though today is a Saturday, it is surprisingly not busy! I am on duty for the 11:00 opener. That was my first time ever since the Wheelhouse renovation. The only difference is that, I have to get the condiments and butter for the terrace. It’s just additional carrier for my cart. However, Kit is also assigned to get the condiments for their outlet. However, she doesn’t know where to get those, I I just gave it to her instead. Maybe, I’m wrong to take the condiments for the Terrace since they have people to do that for their outlet?
Today is also Kimi’s Birthday. He’s the son of one of our Ate’s in the Club. We celebrated it with him. Of course, we made ourselves full again. We tried playing with him but he’s a bit sleepy.

09 July 2010, Friday
Today is another day-off of mine. I wonder how many day-offs were left to be consumed? Anyway, I have a date with one of my close friends, Jeanne. She is assigned to Holiday Inn Atrium. Before I met up with her, I went around Suntec first. Before 16:00, I headed to Holiday Inn in Havelock Road. I know that she will finish at around 16:00. However, she sent me a sms telling me that she’ll finish by 18:00. So I decided to look around the area first. It was boring in their place. It is unlike the vicinity of our Club where the city life is very lively. While walking, I found this unique hotel named Gallery Hotel. It was like a real gallery. I really like it so much. Thru walking, from Holiday Inn, I reached Clarke Quay. I decided to just meet up with my friend there. Then, we’re invited to go to east coast with the others. We joined them since I also want to feel the breeze of the sea and to relax my feet in the sand.
08 July 2010, Thursday
Today is another day of my clumsiness. I really did a lot of mistakes. I don’t know why. Then, I found the GM eating in my section with some people I don’t know. My seniors are telling me to be extra careful and move quietly in the station. It’s always like that just whenever the GM is around or when there are GC member dining in. I also feel like the GC members are always dining in the section I’m assigned to. My assistant manager is also on leave for quite a while now. Somehow, I miss his presence.
07 July 2010, Wednesday
We have a fair busyness in the restaurant today. It was like, it was busy at first but the members leave quickly. The next thing you know is that you have to do the closing duties already.
Tonight is a ladies night and we went bar hopping. Instead of having free entranced at bars, we actually paid for a bottle of a Grey Goose L’Orange Vodka. But we have fun going from bar to bar. We really went to different bars with different concept. It was my first time going to the EskiBar which is literally an eskimo bar. It was freezing cold inside. We also went to try Shiza somewhere near Arab Street.

06 July 2010, Tuesday
Yesterday, the operation of the Wheelhouse upstairs started. So, today is the first day I will work ever since the renovation of the Wheelhouse started. How was the operation of the restaurants? Everything seems messy. It’s not busy but everything just doesn’t seem to be in order. If the operation will be like this until the renovation is finished, I don’t know what will happen.
I went to work in my high heel boots. They noticed it since I look so tall. Anyway, Betty just asked me to apply for annual leave to cover my MC. That’s also the same thing that the HR told me when I asked them.

05 July 2010, Monday
Today, due to my body pain, I had a sick leave/MC. I did not go and see a doctor. I just slept and rested for a whole day. I wonder what will I do if they asked me for a Medical receipt?!
04 July 2010, Sunday
I am almost late for my 10:00 duties today. I’m still lucky because my travel was faster than Bab. We reached the Club just at the same time, even though she left earlier than me.
We have a shortage of staff today since a lot of staff is not around. At times like this, the staff present will suffer. In addition to that, my left shoulder is really aching.

03 July 2010, Saturday
It is raining really hard when I went to work this morning. Nothing happened today with much significance, it’s just a normal busy Saturday. By the way, the water from Tavern bar is leaking. That happens quite a number of times already. It is affecting the operation of the bar, as well as the staff traffic flow.
Just every time that there were leakages at the back of the house, we are always in danger. They should always act speedily to prevent accidents.

02 July 2010, Friday
Today is busy but not so busy. We have a fair turn-over rate of the members and guests. It’s just enough to keep us doing something and rest for a while.
My shoulder is starting to ache now. I’m afraid that I might be MC one of these days.

01 July 2010, Thursday
Today I was told by a member that my English is good and that I have an American accent. Considering that Chinese-Malays’ English is not very fluent, our English is of higher level than them.
I am almost late for my morning shift. I woke up by 9:30 and leave by 10:00. I’m the 11:00 opener. I’ve been behaving like this for quite a while now.

30 June 2010, Wednesday
Today is my half-day. My schedule is just so good lately. I went to work wearing a high heel shoes that is too big for my feet. Since it’s still early, I decided to buy a new pair of footwear. I found this boots that is like a combat shoes, in Cotton On Ion. I bought it quickly. I also found this brown boots that is very long. That will be good for my white long sleeves dress. I didn’t buy it since there’s no bigger size. It’s such a waste.
There was this camera that I’ve been looking for, a Canon Powershot IS120. It is an older model but I like the features. I found it in Best Denki in Takashimaya.

29 June 2010, Tuesday
This is another day-off for me. I promised to bring Guada to Ang Mo Kio since I will also go there to buy some goods. Then, I brought Guada to Novena to eat Chicken Rice. She also liked it :)
28 June 2010, Monday
Today is my PH Leave. I went out with Kit, Guada and Abang. We went to the Jurong Bird Park and Abang treated us there. He was so kind to his trainees. While we’re on the Lory bird cage, the lory birds gathered into me because I am holding food for them. It was fun but I don’t like the feel of their nails in my skin. Then, Abang brought us to some steamboat restaurant in Takashimaya. He treated us to dinner. It was a buffet where you will cook whatever you take from the buffet table. Fun and Full!
On our way there, Kit and I experienced a little trouble. We’re suspected to be prostitutes at the broad daylight! We’re asked to show our passport and asked us questions. We said that we’re students and we’re going to school so they freed us. We’ll be in real bad mood if ever they took us with them.

27 June 2010, Sunday
I am on duty for the 10:00 opener with Wendy. We ate breakfast first in Seraka room. She gave me a bread cake that is very big and forced me to eat it. Thanks to her, I got energy for the morning.
During night shift, Loy Fatt saw the fried rice that is requested by Yuki. He caught nobody eating but I think that he is angry. We have this No Food, No Drinks Rule in the Club since we’re provided with S$150.00 food allowance. I don’t know what he’s going to say in the briefing tomorrow?!

26 June 2010, Saturday
Today is the schedule that Betty asked me. During the briefing, Betty showed us the design of the Greek outfit for male and female for the Greek Food Promotion. The shoe for the female was like mine. Becky will be wearing the costume for female and Hady for the male.
After work, I went to newton with Karlaine, Becky and Linda. Ate Aisa followed. We eat a lot and talked a lot about work issues including Ate Evelyn, Yuki, and the hierarchy in Tavern. I learned a lot of things regarding the issues in Tavern. I knew that there was something wrong with the management but for the staff to have this kind of thinking, I think it’s just too ruined.

25 June 2010, Friday
Today is my day-off but I only slept in my bed for the whole day. When I woke up in the evening, I feel like I have to go out. So I decided to just go and visit Merlion. However, I got tired of taking photos of Merlion so I decided to walk around. From Fullerton Bay, I reached the museums and even witnessed a lot of river cruises passing by. I also reached Clarke Quay and even Raffles City.
24 June 2010, Thursday
Today is another staff gathering in the Club and this was our third. I made myself full again. The food was all good. Bab even asked me to take home some for her. Since, she loves prawns and there was a prawn dish, I kept some for her.
There was a sudden change in my roster since it was not busy. Betty made me go home by 22:00 tonight but I must start 11:00 on Saturday. It was fair for me. Since we have the 23:00 end of shift, we never get the chance to go home by 22:00.

23 June 2010, Wednesday
During lunch, the rain suddenly poured one hour before 15:00. This is a bad news to the staff because it will be difficult for them to go out. For the dinner shift, the General Committee is having their dinner again in Tavern. It means that tomorrow is the Staff Gathering. While the GC members were still having their meal, Linda accidentally broke all the plates she was carrying in the tray. It was an accident but since the GC is there, Loy Fatt doesn’t seem to be happy about that.
22 June 2010, Tuesday
I rode bus 7 then 190 for the first time in going to the Club. It was quite fast and not tiring. The walk when I only took bus 7 will be 15minutes from the bus stop to the Club. In addition to that, the heat of the sun makes me even more tired. For emergency purposes, I kept some toiletries in my locker. Just in case I need them, I have to be ready.
21 June 2010, Monday
My schedule for these past few days was great. I have this day-off-opening-7-11-opening-7-11 kind of schedule. Today is part of that, the last 7-11. I went to Toa Payoh to buy pillows and comforter. I even searched online how to get to the Club from Toa Payoh. I find it difficult to find my way to the bus interchanged, but I still luckily found it. Tonight, since it’s a Monday, the restaurant is on a laidback mood again.
20 June 2010, Sunday
I am on duty for 11:00 opener. I ride a taxi even though it was only 9:15. I am really afraid to be late. I actually arrived in the Club by 10:00. I’m so early.
This was my first time answering a phone call in the restaurant. Luckily, it was from Loy Fatt. I just hate to answer phone calls because I’m afraid that I might not understand what the person on the other line was saying.

19 June 2010, Saturday
Again, I have a half-day work schedule. I am almost late for my shift because I arrived in the Club 5 minutes before my shift starts. I ride bus 21 by 18:20 when I started to head for the bus stop by 18:00. The bus made me wait. So when I reached the St. Michael’s stop, I took a taxi going to the Club. Thank goodness the taxi fare wasn’t so expensive.
There were two long tables in Section AB. I’m very thankful that I’m not there. I hate long tables. Those two tables were celebrating for birthdays. The staff also celebrated Uncle Kok Wu’s birthday ahead of time. It was the first time that I experienced it. The cake was from Sun Moulin in Isetan. It was so good and I love it.

18 June 2010, Friday
My mind is totally messy. My seniors kept on asking me to do various things when I haven’t done doing one thing. There was this incident when Yuki asked me to fire the food for the table but I print the bill. See? They are so reliant on me for doing things for them. I can actually mess up their requests.
17 June 2010, Thursday
Today is one of my day-offs. I had a good time today. I went to Changi beach walk bare-footed along the shore. I can feel the grains of the sand massaging my feet. I thought that East Coast Park is just near the Changi Beach so I decided to walk. I walk and walk and actually reached a dead end for the Changi Beach Park. I really wanted to go to East Coast Park so I decided to walk further until I reached the park. Then, along the way, I can see numbers painted on the road indicating the distance away from East Coast Park. I hate to admit it but I am more than 10km away from East Coast Park. I am determined so I walked anyway. Positively thinking, this is an exercise for my breathing and lungs. It’s not for my legs since it’s already over used. I’m still fortunate to reach the East Coast Park and find a bus ride to Suntec. It’s the only bus there.
16 June 2010, Wednesday
Today, I experienced a terrifying rain in Singapore. The rain is just like storm signal number 1 or 2 in the Philippines. However, they never consider having a storm in Singapore. So they refer to it a very heavy rain. I took the Bus 21-Bus 124 route going to the Club. It was quite faster than the bus 7 route. However, because of this rain, I am stuck in the road. I am together with Rox. Luckily, we’re just one stop away from Far East Plaza so we managed to walk to the Club. I am 20 minutes late for my duties and I am an 11:00 opener. I got a little excited because I never imagined flood in Singapore. I actually saw the floodwater going inside the bus.
Then, because of the heavy rain, a lot of places in Singapore are flooded. I caused all of our staff to be late for the briefing. Even my assistant manager who’s very strict is late for the briefing.

15 June 2010, Tuesday
Whenever I am the 11:00 opener, I am usually early. But today is different. I am actually late for my 11:00 duties. Finishing the duties will take me 20 to 25 minutes, I can fold the napkins quickly, so I really don’t mind that task.
Today is my first time eating Filipino food in Lucky Plaza. We asked our Kuya from the Cold Kitchen to bring us to some good Filipino food. It was supposed to be yesterday, but we moved it today. We also asked Linda and Becky to come with us. They agreed in trying to eat Filipino food and they even tagged Bonnie along with us. I just discovered that Becky likes to eat dessert more than the main courses. She’s too cute. By the way, the three of them are Chinese girls.

14 June 2010, Monday
We decided to call the LPG Gas supplier and that ruined my schedule. I have work today but then, the supplier arrived earlier than we expected. So I just arranged everything regarding that and left for work. I am almost late. I have to catch the earliest bus possible. Run for it!
13 June 2010, Sunday
I tried to take order from a table with only one member. Guess what?! I've screw up when I took the order. I mean, I asked my manager to key in the order for me but I told her the wrong one. Well, we just need to change it into what the member ordered. I’m really terrible in taking orders.
12 June 2010, Saturday
Rox suddenly invited us to her relative’s place in Bukit Panjang. We went there during our split-shift break. We went there so that we could have a good rest because the restroom is totally full.
It was our first time going to Bukit Panjang. The road going there is so nostalgic because it resembles my way to Cavite – SLEX. Just a little while upon our arrival at the apartment, the food delivery arrived too. We have two types of pizzas and chicken wings. We made sure that we’re full. Then, we rested for about 30 minutes and went back to the Club.

11 June 2010, Friday
I had lunch with Ate Aisa, Ate Maria and Ate Rose Ann. They only talked about Ate Evelyn and her attitude problem. I discovered that all of them already had a little fight with Ate Evelyn. This Ate of mine really have to fix her attitude.
Tonight, we decided to go to Clarke Quay after work. We went from one bar to the other. At the end, we’re only not allowed to enter because Kuya Nato is not properly dressed. He decided to change his outfit first and return to the club. We stayed at Arena and our entrance is paid by Ate Aisa. We owe her a big amount. We had a great time tonight. We really danced throughout the night. We even danced in the stage. I never imagined that I would do that.
I drink Gin Tonic and Vodka Tonic tonight. Then, when I reached the dormitory and changed my clothes. I noticed myself being reddish and a bit itchy. I don’t know what’s happening to me. I showed it to my friend and she said that it’s because of my body temperature rising up because of the alcohol. I’m a little relieved when she said that.

10 June 2010, Thursday
I had my lunch at Seraka room with Kuya Nato andStanley. I had a great time with them. They actually made me missed my friend in the Philippines.
09 June 2010, Wednesday
I decided to have the cardigan that I bought the other day to be exchanged. I first confirmed if I can exchange it in other branch. When I found out that it is possible, I decided to look for the Cotton On branch in Wisma Atria and exchange the products there. I decided to get three different sale items in exchange for the returned one. However, I exceeded the price of cardigan by S$2.50, but I really don’t mind.
08 June 2010, Tuesday
Today is another day-off of mine. I decided to go to Anchorpoint and then to Bugis.
By the help of “gothere.sg” I was able to reach Anchorpoint without sweating. However, every time I am going to a new place, I always find myself lost even though I reached the place safely. I did not find Anchorpoint as soon as possible, but I found this Queensway Shopping Center. I decided to have a look at it first. It was full of sporting goods. From equipment to outfit, anything related to sports is found there.
Then, through my OVI maps in my hand phone, I finally find out how to get to Anchorpoint. I just need to cross the street and open my eyes to see the small writing of Anchorpoint.

07 June 2010, Monday
Today, Rox is transferred from Banquet to Tavern. It was Mr. Johnny Yap who decided her transfer in our outlet. Now, we’re three Filipino trainees in Tavern. In exchange, Suhaib is transferred from our outlet to Banquet. For some reason, Banquet needs more male staff. Actually, aside from the manager, all the staff of their team were males.
I went to Cotton On in Ion again. This time, I bought a cardigan and a sleeveless long blouse. When I reached the Club, I just noticed that it was kind of damaged so I need to return it for exchange.

06 June 2010, Sunday
Today, during the lunch shift, one of the members told me that I’m a sweet girl. She was Mrs. Leong and she’s one of the most frequent members in our outlet. Whatever she ordered, she will always have a spoon and fork, and side plate with her.
Lunch is not busy but the members are staying for quite a long period. I think it was like that. If there aren’t many people in the restaurant, the members tend to stay longer and enjoy their time. However, if it was totally busy and noisy, the members will initiate to leave the restaurant as soon as they are finished.
Dinner is very busy again. I wonder why members keep coming back to the restaurant even though they have been members for a long time already. I am guessing that they have tried everything in the menu that they can actually tell if the chefs who cooked the food are different.
I decided to have a walk along Orchard road during my break. I went to Cotton On to check if I can find something good. Luckily, I find this black long sleeves polo and it only costs S$5.00. It was cheap and the material is good so I unhesitatingly bought it. I only buy S$10.00 worth of shoes and less than S$10.00 worth of clothes in Cotton On.

05 June 2010, Saturday
I went to work together with Bab and we experienced a crazy weather. When we were walking to Tanglin, it was drizzling, and at the same time, it was cloudy and sunny. We’re like saying, “What’s up?! Why is the weather like this?!” Well, I’ve never seen something like this before, so I was just kind of amused.
Talk about work! Today is very laidback in Tavern. I mean there’re not much people that it really bored me. Although, I’m not tired, the atmosphere really made me feel sleepy. It was totally bumming!

04 June 2010, Friday
Today is my off-day. Well, I decide for my itinerary today since the other day. I just did things as I planned them. I went to the Old Airport to check the wet market there. I really want to buy meat and condiments so I can cook adobo or sinigang. I actually went there without sleeping. So, when I returned back to the dormitory, I just settled my groceries and hit the sack. Then, the next thing that I know is that I just slept the whole afternoon. I eat my first meal by 19:00. Then, when Kit arrived by 23:00 she asked me to eat again. So, I was like totally full after eating.
03 June 2010, Thursday
Lately, we’ve been bothered about the pay that we are receiving since we just received our pay advice. Since we’re already aware of how much is being paid for our training, and how much do our seniors get, then we’re actually hoping for the same thing. However, we asked the HR about our split-shift pay and they said that they will not pay us the split-shift. We just think positively that we’re not here for the money. However, just whenever that we are having a difficult time at work, that thought will just come haunting us. That really made me very depressed.
During lunch, or rather, during split-shift break, I ate lunch with Anita, Nazrul, Arun, Ate Maria, Kuya Archel, Kit and Karlaine. We had a good time since we belong to different outlets, there’s not much time for us to have a gathering like this. This is actually my first time talking to them, so I was kind of shy. But honestly, they’re good to be with. Most of the people there are from the Wheelhouse so their bond is much deeper. They are all cheerful.

31 May 2010, Monday
I’m freaking tired and in bad mood. When it’s busy, I don’t totally help with the service. I carry the tray most of the time, so my body is kind of aching. I’m not totally used to it. Life in in a restaurant is really unpredictable, especially in a member’s club since we give what they want.
30 May 2010, Sunday
During the dinner shift, since it’s not busy, Pauline asked me to clean the bottles of condiments. That’s a new task for me. When I return the ice bucket to its storage cabinet, I accidentally bumped my head to the glass cover of the salad bar. It was so obvious because it turned red. I’m just too unfortunate.
29 May 2010, Saturday
We already received part of our money which we received from Tanglin. It consists our food allowance and our laundry allowance. Well, we’re only receiving the laundry allowance May since they’re going to change that policy. By the Start of June, we’ll have the housekeeping wash our uniforms.
28 May 2010, Friday
Today is one of my Filipino seniors is celebrating her birthday but she’s on leave. So, we decided to visit her at her apartment and celebrate with her. So during split shift break, we went to Sing Ming Avenue via taxi. The place is just a small apartment but it’s good enough since the people staying there are not always there. We also met one of our seniors’ son, Kimmy. He’s such a cute baby boy but he’s scarily big. He has not even reached the age of 1 year old but he looks two years old already. He looked so cute and his voice is deep and big. He can’t speak properly yet but he’s so cute so it doesn’t matter that much.
I bought food for Kit even though we’re going to eat at Sing Ming. So I’m already full even before reaching the party place.

27 May 2010, Thursday
Today, at work, I helped Stanley to serve the food orders in one of the tables. However, I kind of place the wrong food at the wrong person, so Stanley is kind of grabbing me. Well, at least the members know what they ordered. Then, due to my mistake and because I’m used to, I said “Gomen ne” which is Japanese way of saying sorry. What’s more to that is that I’m surprised to learn that the daughter of the member understood me. I think that the members and guests here were all well-educated.
I was also able to speak French with a guy member. It was just for a little while though. Even though I was a little blurry, we still manage to have a good chat.
I took MRT going to work today again. Even so, I’m still quite late for the briefing. Such a shame on my part considering that I I’m not yet here for too long.
Anyway, since today is staff gathering I did enjoy the food and made myself very full.
Mr. Garry Choo scolded me because I’m covering up for my roommate who’s not staying with us. He told me not to be so smart trying to cover for others. Well, I know that but I just don’t want my roommate to be in trouble. In fact I’m saying an excuse that is kind of believable. There are times that she will finish her work by 2:00 so she wouldn’t be able to return to the dormitory before curfew. Well, Actually all of us don’t reutn to the dormitory before curfew since that’s our work schedule.

26 May 2010, Wednesday
Today’s news! I got my pay advice this morning. What’s more? It only contains the food allowance which only amounts S$121.28 instead of S$150. As far as I know, we have our laundry allowance which is about S$30 and yet it is not stated in our pay slip. I don’t know if we still have the split shift allowance. If we don’t, I’ll just quit. All of my schedules are split shift. My time is just being wasted in Tanglin if I don’t have the split shift allowance. In addition to that, according to the orientation in UST we are being paid for every over time and spit shift. So, what’s going on? I won’t be able to survive living in Singapore if that was the case. I should have just applied in Friday’s.
This is a very worst day! I spilled the dessert that I picked up (that was the very first time). I broke one water goblet (I have a total of four, fewer compared to my trainee colleagues). The thing is Loy Fat, the assistant manager, saw me cleaning the broken goblet. He said something about paying for the broken goblets. I am depressed over my food allowance. I have no energy. I am thinking about not being paid for the split shift and for the laundry. To think that Tavern is just a mere restaurant, I’d rather work in Friday’s…to think that Tanglin is not a hotel but a member’s club, a social club…to think that I am only a trainee but is doing the same things as the regular employees…to think that my allowance is less than S$450, especially for the first month…I am totally worn out. Other trainees have better compensation. Plus, I learned that it is indicated in the MOM that our pay as trainees is S$950 but we are only getting S$450. Another thing, this evening, the committee members of Tanglin and the GM ate at Tavern after their meeting. The fact that they are important people in Tanglin makes me nervous.
Off for today, I am paying for the internet and yet it is always disrupted.

25 May 2010, Tuesday
During the previous staff gathering, the HR head introduced a new program which is “Train the Trainer”. This is to improve not only the trainees’ capabilities but also the trainers’. Well, we started that program in our outlet today.
One of my captains, Pauline, led the briefing today. Of course she was guided by my manager and assistant manager. The briefing was kind of short but that was a good start for her. I supposed that one by one my captains will do the briefing.

24 May 2010, Monday
I have my day-off today, another day to rest for me. However, I did not stay in the dormitory and rested. Instead, I went out and look for this certain small restaurant somewhere in Lorong 23. Unfortunately, I did not find it. Maybe, I just did not understand the one who told me about this restaurant. So, I decided to proceed to my next destination which is Ang Mo Kio.
I walked towards Guillemard Road until Lorong 14. I waited for almost one hour for bus 70M to arrive but it never came. It is the only bus that will bring me to Ang Mo Kio. Then, I decided to just ride bus 70 and transfer to MRT in Esplanade station. I was able to roam around a little so I’m a bit thankful to bus 70M for not arriving. It’s almost dark when I reached Ang Mo Kio. But I was still able to buy my necessities there, so it doesn’t really matter.

23 May 2010, Sunday
One of the staff in the Club is having a bad mood. He has this photo posted in Facebook and he’s so cute that he looks like a bear. Almost everyone who’s aware of that photo is teasing him. He probably reached his limit and that caused him to have a bad mood.
I did a clumsy thing again! I keyed in orders in a wrong table. My seniors only found out about that when the members asked for their bill. It was easy to solve so they managed to fix it.
We had a little night out today at Clarke Quay. It was me, Bab, Karlaine, and Lila, Bab’s Sister. It was also our first time at Clarke. Then, there is this extreme sport that is one of the attractions in Clarke. I forget what it’s called. Anyway, we were offered to have a free ride in the game. It was for free but we’re kind of in a shock so we did not give in so easily. Then, the man decided to leave us first and give us some time to think. He said that he’ll just have his break. We waited for him but he never came back to us. He only tricked us! We’re so in a bad mood because of him.

22 May 2010, Saturday
Today’s lunch shift is not so busy however the dinner’s shift is terribly busy. Nothing’s so new today, aside from the fact that due to my clumsiness I almost tripped a lot of times. It’s not good to be tripped when you’re carrying a tray. So I am quite thankful that I did not tripped at all, just almost.
21 May 2010, Friday
Kit and I opened our bank account today and returned our passport to the EWM Office. We also met up with our friend, Aldrin, and together we eat in one Filipino Restaurant in Tanjong Pagar. The food there was delicious. We actually eat a lot. I left them before 16:00 because I still have to go to work. I only half a half-day work today. I just love to work for half-day because I can take my time sleeping. I don’t need to rush waking up and going to work.
20 May 2010, Thursday
Today is my day-off! Ha! It is the most awaited day of the week for everyone. A lot of things happened today. I am so happy!
I did my laundry at around 3:00 in the morning. Actually, I only used that time while everyone is sleeping. There is still a pile of clothes inside the machine. I turned it into rinse mode but the soap bubbles will not disappear. So, I opened the machine and to my surprised, the clothes are overloaded. What I did to be able to use the machine is that I split the clothes into two piles and turn the machine into rinse mode again. Voila! It worked! In between rinsing the two piles, I used the machine to wash my own clothes. I am not so mean, right? I helped h owner t wash her clothes properly. Then I placed my clothes in he dryer and sleep.
I suddenly woke up when everyone is already up. I never heard my alarm! Or perhaps, I heard it and did not realize that I turned it off. Anyway, after everyone is gone, I started my day. I waited for someone to finish her laundry so tat I can wash my towel and my room mate’s bedcovers and clothes. I am so kind, right? Well, it was my day off today. And surely, we ill take turns.
While waiting for the laundry to finish, I cleaned the room and the AC. I actually hate the room for having an AC only, and no windows and ceiling fan. The dust is only circulating, and my flu is becoming even worse.
After, putting the bedcovers and towels in the dryer, and the clothes in washing machine, I set off to Tanglin. I need to get some documents to be able to get my work permit. So, I came over Tanglin today. Yes, for a whole week, I went to Tanglin Club. Anyway, after getting the documents, I stayed in the cafeteria together with Karlaine. When I came in, Stanley is with Karlaine, and I heard him talked tagalong fluently! I mean he is very good. Then, Suhaib came in alone. We asked him to join us. I borrowed his earrings to have a look at it. It is totally cool! I cannot describe it but it totally cool! We talked to him and learned quite a lot about him. He is actually a year younger than us. Well, it does not seemed so.
A little later Kit came in. She had a briefing with the other staffs of their outlet, Wheelhouse. The otlet will be undergoing a renovation starting on June and it will lasts for tree months, I think. So Wheelhouse staffs are transferred to Terrace outlet, and the Terrace staff will be transferred to Tavern. Everything is very complicated.
Then, Kuya Nao came and joined us! Y the way, my friend chef, James, saw me and asked me if that was really me. He said tat I looked different in casual clothes and in uniform. Well, they rarely see me in my casual clothes, that’s why.
At around 16:00, Kit and I set off to EWM office. Yvonne is on leave so some other staff entertained us. She speaks English clearly than Yvonne so we did not have a hard time understanding her. We thought that we will not be able to get our working permit today because Kuya Nato told us that the MOM is only until 17:00.But, he lady staff who entertained us told us that, MOM is closes by 17:30. We are just so fortunate today. We are supposed to get Bab’s Working permit, but the MOM staff told me that I cannot be authorised to get other’s permit because I am only a Trainee. So, she will have to get it tomorrow. Tomorrow we will also return the passport and open a bank account.
After getting our working permit, we did not know our where abouts. So, we decided to walk whichever direction our feet brought us. What’s good about Singapore is that you will never get lost! We took pictures beside the river. We walked through the underpass which is very clean. This is the first time tat I saw the other side of Singapore! Ever since our arrival, we only go to Orchard everyday. And take note that Orchard has a lively city life! Today is very refreshing and relaxing. We discovered a side of Singapore that we will visit to relieved stress and relax. We walked though parks and over green grasses. I never ended taking pictures of the building. We pass by Esplanade Mall and went to Marina Bay Sands. Sands is still actually under development. We also ate one dollar ice cream. It tastes like durian although mine was chocolate chips. Durian really is smelly, isn’t it? We we’re able to take pictures of Merlion from behind, from the side and in front. However, all the pictures are too far. We never get near Merlion. We will save the visit to Merlion on the other days. We still have five months to spend here.
Then, we went to Suntec City Mall. It is like Greenbelt. The mall looks very classy. We ate at a food court there. we bought Indonesian food, but I still buy fried rice. The chicken is very delicious. Then, we bought some food from the grocery store there, Carrefour. It is a bit more expensive than Fair Price. I can buy 5 oranges for 1.65 dollars in fair price, but in Carrefour, I can only buy 0.45 dollars each. Anyway, I bought two oranges, two green apples, and a pack of globe grapes. By the way, I saw a store there tat is full of anime stuffs even anime costumes. A set of Japanese school girl uniform costs 79 dollars. If I really have a split shift allowance I will be buying one set. Why not!
We encountered a little problem going home because we cannot see any bus station. But we decided to walk gain and search for one. And alas! We found one. Today is such a long day. But we only walk for about four hours? It’s such a short time but we were able to see a lot of things.
